about

In 1660, Mary Dyer was one of four Quakers to be hung by Puritans in Boston for defying the ban against Quakers entering the colony.  As she and the others condemned with her went to the gallows in perfect peace, feeling that they had done the work they were sent by God to do,  she spoke words from which this chant is taken.

lyrics

"No ear can hear, no tongue can utter, no heart can understand the refreshing of the Spirit of the Lord which now I feel.”
